My inspiration for design draws from a deep respect for the history of our craft and a belief that we still have an infinite well of original design ideas from which to draw. To become grounded in the knowledge of wood and its structure that our ancestors mastered, I made hundreds of chairs by splitting logs and carving each piece with a drawknife and spokeshave. What I learned in those years of emersion in that old-world craft formed the foundation for building all my design work. Rather than binding me to old thinking, mastering these old ways frees me to design wisely without boundaries. Using this understanding, I design with the intent to rise above tradition and trends to create work that belongs to any era. I developed my skills to create work that will last for and be loved by generations. The way I work is expensive, but only on the day it is purchased.
